I spent my early years in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula exploring remote trout streams, wandering in and around peaceful inland lakes, and marveling at the wild, mysterious glory of Lake Superior. Little did I know that finally meeting the ocean would eventually set me on a path of working to protect it and the other wonderful water that surrounds us. Surfrider Foundation became a presence in my life when I lived in southern California, a misplaced “Yooper” struggling to find my niche and seeking a return to the non-profit world (not to mention a reprieve from a wicked commute). What I found was so much more. A family…a community…a movement…to me, Surfrider is all of these. Every day I am impressed by the passion and commitment of our staff and activists, and I am honored to be supporting their work with my patchwork background and skill set of computers, numbers and words. I encourage anyone who wants to make a difference to find a way to contribute – not only financial resources, but your knowledge, abilities and dedication – to the cause that ignites your passion.
