Chief Operating Officer
I just wanted to spend the summer volunteering while I figured out what I wanted to do with my life after passing the bar and becoming an attorney. The atmosphere of the office was a combination of slightly controlled chaos and charged energy. There was an infectious buzz – you knew something great was happening and you just wanted to be a part of it. I still feel that way, at least on most days.
From volunteer to Chief Operating Officer, it has been a long, amazing road filled with many victories and losses, good times and bad times. I am still passionate about the mission after all these years and consider myself extremely fortunate to work for, and with, some of the brightest and funniest people in the environmental movement. I am occasionally accused of taking the “fun” out of “foundation” but still think we have our share of good times.
My connection and love of the beach and ocean was apparent long before my days here at Surfrider. I have the sun damage to prove all the days, months, and years spent in the sun growing up on the beach and in the water of the beautiful beaches of Laguna… (ah, those baby oil days – oh how you have taken a toll)
I try to get to the beach as much as possible and like to take my dog JD (the cutest rescued Pit Bull ever) with me. And regardless of whether we’re walking on the beach or on the street, I’m always picking up trash. It is such an easy thing to do to give back to something that has given me so much joy and the best job in the world.
