  1. Introductions
  2.

  3. Retreat – 31 Jan to 2 Feb, 2003
  4. Our annual retreat will be in Pacific City again this year. We expect to have a lot of active members from our Central coast organizing committee present, so get excited to meet our compadres from out west. Any dedicated members who would like to participate in Oregon Chapter planning, and taking on responsibilities into the upcoming year, are invited to bring a sleeping bag and join us for the weekend. Please email Tina at Tiamotina@cs.com if you are interested in participating.

  5. Cold Water Classic
  6. Thins annual longboard contest in Westport as a fundraiser for the Washington Chapters of the Surfrider Foundation. This contest will take place again this Winter, specific dates TBA. Entry fee includes SF membership and t-shirt. Thank you O.P. for helping sponsor this event this year!

  7. PNW Conference
  8. This is an annual regional conference held for active surfrider members. The topic of this year’s conference is as yet unknown. Dates considered are end-March, beginning-April. Location TBA: either Washington or Tofino.

  9. OMSI – Coral Reef Adventure
  10. This Omnimax movie will be showing at OMSI from March 6th through September, 2003. The POC will coordinate with OMSI to educate the public on how they can take what they have been exposed to in the movie to our ocean and beaches here in Oregon. We are offering to share our mailing list with OMSI in exchange for listing as a sponsor, acknowledgment and discussion of marine protected areas in their monthly magazine, and a booth outside of the theater discussion Oregon chapter, our goals, and how folks can get involved. They are also open to advertising our Mother Ocean Day beach clean up, paddle out, and rally to their members. We are expecting there will be a sneak preview showing of the movie to introduce all members working at the booth to the movie.

We would also like to have members staff the booth on weekends to answer questions about Surfrider. It was suggested that we ask to have a volunteer give a 30 second blurb about Surfrider before the start of the movie. Steve Shipsey has offered to help us write up the article for the magazine. Josh V. suggested we see if we can sell our t-shirts in their store.

For more information or to volunteer to help out, please contact Tina at Tiamotina@cs.com.

  11. Opens

A. Tri-fold: We recently sent out our tri-fold along with an update of events for January through March 2003.

    1. Goal 18 is in mediation. ODOT is requesting an exception to Goal 18 to ask for permission to have future permission to rip-wrap areas along the coast, as they deem necessary. For more information contact Markus at Portlandsurfrider@hotmail.com.
    2. There will be an LCDC meeting in Newport, Jan 23-24. This will be their coastal issues meeting. Issues: MPA’s, Goal 18 mediation. There is a public comment period for you to tell them you oppose their plans for rip-wrap or any other concerns, or suggestions regarding the Oregon coast. For more information please contact Markus at Portlandsurfrider@hotmail.com.
    3. MPAs - Governor Kitzhaber agreed that MPAs are important, but he did not give much direction. Any letters to the Governor our members would like to write on these issues would be great. For more information please contact Markus at Portlandsurfrider@hotmail.com.
    4. Water quality testing – The Oregon Chapter has been working together with several high schools along the coast to do water quality testing. Oregon is the last state in the nation to adopt state funded water quality testing along the coast.
