UNCW Movie Premier Fundraiser
The Cape Fear Surfrider Chapter and University of North Carolina Wilmington Quad program hosted an “EAST COAST RISING” movie premiere fundraiser on March 16, 2013. UNCW student organization vice president, Tara Smith, coordinated this event with a core group of student volunteers.
The “EAST COAST RISING” documentary, a surfer’s perspective on Hurricane Sandy. Students solicited multiple sponsors for raffles prizes including, a custom AV Surfboard, three skateboards, gift cards, t-shirts, hats, and two GoPro cameras among many other great prizes. Might As Well Wilmingotn donated 10% of total sales for that day. There was a great community effort by local businesses in supporting this event. Five local bands donated performances throughout the day including’ Dogs Ave, Signal Fire, Mandy’s Handies and the Fiddle Folkers, Electric Soul Pandemic, Brother’s Egg, and acoustic sets by Shane Wall and Sterling Journigan. An estimated three hundred supporters were in attendance throughout the day.
The Cape Fear Chapter and UNCW quad program raised $2134.70 to be donated to international non-profit Waves for Water and their Hurricane Sandy relief efforts.
