April 8, 2006 -- Do You Remember Your First Snorkeling Experience?

Rincón, PR -- For many of us, time "on" and "in" the water is a given. But for lots of kids (and adults), the marine environment is as foreign an environment as the moon.

Rincón is home to the Tres Palmas Marine Reserve, yet most of the children of this small coastal community in Puerto Rico have never experienced the magic of the ocean. Surfrider has been actively engaging local school kids in a marine education program to raise awareness about the unique natural resources found in the nearshore waters. So far this year, Surfrider volunteers have logged over 250 hours in the Jorge Seda Crespo Middle School.

Students have enjoyed classroom and field activities. Most recently, the kids have been able to experience the Marine Reserve first hand with "Pasadias Familiares" at the Reserve.

For many students, these outings were their first snorkeling experiences. Check out the photos at:

8 de abril de 2006 -- ¿Recuerdas Tu Primera Experiencia de Buceo Libre?

Rincón, PR -- Para muchos de nosotros, el tiempo que pasamos "en" el agua es lo más natural del mundo. Pero para muchos niños (y adultos), el ambiente marino esta ajeno como el de la luna.

Rincón es el hogar de la Reserva Marina Tres Palmas, y aun la mayoría de los niños de esta pequeña comunidad costera en Puerto Rico jamás han vivido la magia del oceáno. El programa de educación marina que la Fundación Surfrider está llevando a las escuelas está creando conciencia sobre los preciosos recursos naturales que se encuentran en nuestra costa. Hasta ahora este año, voluntarios de la Fundación Surfrider han ofrecido mas de 250 horas en la Escuela Intermedia Jorge Seda Crespo de Rincón.

Los estudiantes has disfrutado de actividades en el salón y en la playa. Recientemente, los niños han podido vivir la experiencia de la Reserva Marina directamente con los Pasadías Familiares en Tres Palmas.

Para muchos estudiantes, estos pasadías significaron sus primeros buceos libres. Ve las fotos del 8 del abriol 2006:
