April 28, 2006: Reserva Marina Tres Palmas Steering Committee Meets

Rincón, PR -- The Reserva Marina Tres Palmas Comité Timón (Steering Committee) met to advance the work on the Tres Palmas Marine Reserve Management Plan. The process to create the management plan is being facilitated by Manolo Valdés Pizzini and his team from the Interdisciplinary Center for Coastal Studies (CIEL, in Spanish).

During the meeting, Valdés Pizzini presented Version 3 of the Management Plan for the Comité's review. Annette Blasini and Carlos Carrero also gave presentations on their extensive outreach and education activities related to the Reserve in Rincón.

Valdés Pizzini and his team will begin to meet with stakeholder groups during the coming months to integrate their comments into the plan and to facilitate broad public participation.

Tres Palmas is home to one of the healthiest Elkhorn Coral communities in the Caribbean.

28 de abril 2006: Comité Timón Reserva Marina Tres Palmas Se Reune

Rincón, PR -- El Comité Timón del Plan de Manejo de la Reserva Marina Tres Palmas se reunió para adelantar el trabajo del Plan de Manejo de la Reserva Marina Tres Palmas. El proceso de crear un plan de manejo es facilitado por el profesor Manuel Valdés Pizzini y su equipo del Centro Interdisciplinario de Estudios del Litoral (CIEL).

Durante la reunión, Valdés Pizzini presentó la 3ra versión del Plan de Manejo a ser revisada por el comité. review. Annette Blasini y Carlos Carrero también dieron presentaciones sobre sus extensivos trabajos comunitarios y actividades educativas relacionadas con la Reserva en Rincón.

Valdes Pizzini y su equipo comenzarón a reunirse con los grupos interesados durante los próximos meses para integrar sus comentarios al plan y para facilitar amplia participación pública.

Los arrecifes de coral en esta Reserva Marina se consideran como unos de los más saludables de Puerto Rico por lo que ameritan un uso responsable para su conservación y aprovechamiento. Adicionalmente, son un área de alto valor turístico para el municipio de Rincón.
