Versión española December 15, 2006 - "CUIDA TUS PLAYAS" By Annette Blasini Students from the Jorge Seda Crespo Middle School in Rincón (across from Balneario) have been working hard with Surfrider Foundation volunteers on a mural titled "CUIDA TU PLAYA". The paints and brushes for the proyect were paid by the aluminum cans which the students recycle in a school initiative. The 40'x10' mural, designed and painted by the students, has a message that reads: "Did you know that in just one day 8.2 million pounds of trash were picked up on different coasts around the world?...It is estimated that one million birds and 100,000 marine mammals and sea turtles die each year from swallowing or entanglement with plastics such as trash bags, six-packs, food wrappers, supermarket bags. Help reduce these numbers by putting your trash in the trashcan. Thanks." You can see it from the street when you drive by the school parking. Thanks to the students who participated, Club Los Playeros, Mr. Rollins, Ms. Miriam Pérez, Chelsea, Suzanne, David and Maureen, Leon, teachers, who helped make it possible. English version above 15 de diciembre del 2006 -- "CUIDA TUS PLAYAS" por Annette Blasini Los estudiantes de la Escuela Intermedia Jorge Seda Crespo de Rincón(frente al Balneario) han estado trabajando arduamente con voluntarios de la Fund. Surfrider en un mural titulado "CUIDA TUS PLAYAS". Las pinturas y brochas se compraron con latas de aluminio que los estudiantes reciclan en una iniciativa escolar. El mural de 40'x10', disenado y pintado por los estudiantes tiene un mensaje que lee: "Sabías que en un solo día se recogieron 8.2 millones de libras de basura en diversas costas del mundo?...Se estima que un millón de pájaros y 100,000 mamíferos marinos y tortugas marinas se mueren cada ano por ingerir o enredarse en plásticos como bolsas de basura, six-packs, envolturas de comida, bolsas de supermercado. Ayuda a reducir estos números botando la basura en el zafacón. Gracias." Lo puedes apreciar desde la calle cuando pasar por el parking escolar. Gracias a los estudiantes que participaron, al Club Los Playeros, Mr. Rollins, Ms. Miriam Pérez, Chelsea, Suzanne, David and Maureen, Leon, y maestras, que hicieron posible este proyecto.
