Versión española February 1, 2007 – Steering Committee Meets Together and with Community Members Rincón, PR -- Dr. Manuel Pizzini (“Manolo”) of UPR/RUM brought us up to date on the status of the management plan for the marine re- serve, now in its final stages since being outlined by the DRNA a year and half ago. In his role of facilitator/writer of this docu- ment, Manolo has had the Herculean task of making sure all the regulatory, scientific and social requirements are being met. In this current phase he is collecting additional suggestions and in- put from various user groups such as fishermen, dive- boat opera- tors etc. If you have not been contacted and have an opinion or suggestion regarding the Marine Reserve, please get in touch with Manolo at litorales@yahoo.com. Every effort is being made to hear the comments of anyone who wants to make them. The non-scientific members of the steering committee were also at the meeting to answer questions and explain their roles. There were several good suggestions from the audience. -------------
English version above 1 de febrero de 2007 – Comité Timón Se Reune y Con Ciudadanos El Dr. Manuel Pizzino (“Manolo”) de la UPR/RUM nos puso al dia sobre el estatus del los planes de manejo de la Reserva Marina, ahora en las últimas etapas después de que la DRNA (por sus siglas en ingles) hizo un resumen hace año y medio. En su papel de facilitador/escritor de este documento, Manolo ha tenido una tarea enorme en asegurarse de que se cumplan con todos los requisitos reglamentarios, científicos y sociales. En la fase actual está colectando sugerencias adicionales y la aportación de varios grupos tales como pescadores, operadores de botes de buceo, etc. Si usted no ha sido contactado y tiene una opinión o sugerencia en cuanto a la Reserva Marina, por favor comuníquese con Manolo en litorales@yahoo.com. Se está haciendo el esfuer- zo de prestar oído a todos los comentarios de cualquiera que los quiera hacer. Los socios no científicos del comité directivo también acudie- ron a la reunión para contestar preguntas y explicar el papel que juegan. Algunos en la audiencia hicieron sugerencias muy buenas.
