10, 2002: Puerto Rico Planning Board Denies Villa Ikaria Once
and for All
Rincón, PR - Surfrider won yet another major battle
to "Save Tres Palmas" when the appeal for reconsideration
of the Villa Ikaria project that was proposed on the land
in front of Tres Palmas was denied.
The developer's only recourse would be to appeal the decision
in court - a move deemed as "unlikely" by Coalition
attorney Miguel Sarriera - or start the process again from
scratch with an entirely different project.
Once again, the Planning Board clearly acknowledged the Coalition's
lobbying efforts during the past two years by incorporating
Surfrider's comments into the final decision.
The denial will now allow the Coalition to focus on the next
step of the campaign - creation of the Maritime Reserve.
