July 11, 2002--Alexis Massol Speaks Out to Save Tres Palmas

Surrounded by members of the Coalition, Goldman Prize Winner Alexis Massol highlighted the urgent need to protect the Tres Palmas area of Rincon. Massol reflected on his own community's experience establishing a natural reserve (Bosque del Pueblo) and commented that while the Puerto Rican government is quick to sign permits for projects that wreak environmental havoc, it is slow to pass legislation to protect Puerto Rico's natural resources.

"I am asking the President of the House of Representatives, Carlos Vizcarrondo, to heed this project and introduce legislation to designate the Maritime Reserve in Rincon."
