Versión española June 21, 2007 - International Surfing Day Celebrated at Steps Beach By Sean Guerin Rincón, PR - Thursday, June 21st marked the third annual observance of International Surfing Day promoted by Surfing Magazine and Surfrider Foundation. The event is designed as a day for all waveriders and ocean goers to take a moment to share and acknowledge their mutual love for the beach and ocean environments. "It's a great opportunity to remind everyone about the need and importance to protect our oceans, waves and beaches," stated Evan Slater, Editor of Surfing Magazine. In keeping with the spirit of the day, the Rincon chapter and guests hosted a potluck dinner on Steps Beach. Nearly 25 participants showed and celebrated the occasion, as well as the Summer Solstice. The food was delicious and bountiful, and the guests were treated to and performed live entertainment featuring multiple percussion instruments and drums and the vocal stylings of a young visitor. All in all, the event was a success and everyone enjoyed the festivities, and keeping with the true spirit of the day, the beach was left cleaner than it was found. -------------
English version above 21 de junio de 2007 –“International Surfing Day” Se Celebró en Playa Escalera Por Sean Guerin Rincón, PR - El jueves 21 de junio marcó la tercera observancia anual del "International Surfing Day" promovido por la revista "Surfing" y la Fundación Surfrider. El evento se establece como un día en que todos los corredores de olas y usuarios del océano tomen un momento para compartirla y para reconocer su amor mutuo para la playa y el océano. "Es una gran oportunidad para hacer recordara cada uno sobre la necesidad y la importancia de proteger nuestros océanos, olas y playas," indicó Evan Slater, redactor de la revista "Surfing." En armonía con el espíritu del día, el capítulo de Rincón e invitados ofrecieron una cena informal en la playa Escalera. Casi 25 participantes demostraron y celebraron la ocasión, así como el solsticio del verano. La comida estaba deliciosa y abundante, y los invitados disfrutaron música en vivo con instrumentos de percusión y los estilos vocales de un joven visitante. En general el acontecimiento fue un éxito y cada uno gozó de las festividades, y en resonancia con el espíritu verdadero del día, la playa se dejó más limpia de lo que se encontró.
