| Versión española May 6, 2006 – Club Leo Cleans Up the Tres Palmas Marine Reserve
By Yashira Yahaira Vale – Club Leo President Rincón, PR – The Club Leo of Rincón (Junior Lion’s Club), youths dedicated to community service, in conjuction with the Surfrider Foundation, conducted a beach clean-up on May 6, 2006. The group cleaned the Tres Palmas Marine Reserve. The activity started at 9:00 AM and ended at 12:00. Seven Club Leo members and various members of the community attended. Before the clean-up, participants were given an educational talk on the Tres Palmas Marine Reserve by Surfrider’s Leon Richter. The volunteers were divided into groups of three and cleaned the coast, the nearby areas, and the mangrove. The following items were found: garbage bags, rope, cans, glass, plastic, bottles, cardboard, food, and cigarette butts among other items. A great clean-up was realized and the participants were able to learn about the Tres Palmas Marine Reserve of Rincón, the importance of recycling and the importance of preserving our environment. The Club Leo would like to thank Leon Richter and the Surfrider Foundation for collaborating with us and making this actvity possible. English version above 6 de mayo de 2006 – El Club Leo Limpia la Reserva Marina Tres Palmas
Por Yashira Yahaira Vale – Presidente del Club Leo Rincón, PR – El Club Leo de Rincón, jóvenes dedicados al servicio de la comunidad, junto a la Fundación Surfrider realizaron una limpieza de playa el día 6 de mayo de 2006. Limpiaron la Reserva Marina Tres Palmas de Rincón. La actividad dió inicio a las 9:00 AM y finalizó a las 12:00. Asistieron siete miembros del Club Leo de Rincón y varios participantes de la comunidad. Antes de la limpieza los participantes tuvieron una charla sobre la Reserva Marina Tres Palmas por Leon Richter de la Fundación Surfrider. Nos dividimos en grupos de tres y limpiamos la costa, los alrededores y el mangle. Los artículos que se encontraron fueron: bolsas de basura, ropa, latas, vidrio, plástico, botellas, cartón, comida, colillas, entre otros. Se realizó una gran limpieza y los participantes pudieron aprender sobre la Reserva Marina Tres Palmas de Rincón, la importancia de reciclar y de preservar nuestro medio ambiente. El Club Leo de Rincón quiere agradecer a Leon Richter y a la Fundación Surfrider por colaborar con nosotros para que esta actividad fuese posible. "A veces sentimos que lo que hacemos es tan solo una gota en el mar, pero el mar sería menos inmenso si le faltara una gota." |
