May 30, 2006 - STUDENTS COMPETE IN FIRST "I LOVE RINCÓN" POETRY & ART CONTEST

Rincón, PR - Students from the Manuel García Pérez High School were invited to participate in the first "I Love Rincón" Art & Poetry Contest. Students were asked to express what in Rincón is beautiful to them. The winners from the two categories, illustration and poetry, were announced on May 26 at the high school.

Two of the winning art pieces were also converted into murals and were painted on high school walls by the winning artists with the help of some classmates.

Illustration/Painting Winners:

1st Prize - José Castro, 2nd Place - Deyson Lorenzo Rìos, 3rd Place- Natasha M. Muñiz

Poetry Winners:

1st Prize - Katia González Lorenzo, 2nd Place - José Ezequiel Santiago, 3rd Place - Roniel Mercado Chaparro

In addition to prize bags that included free Surfrider memberships, underwater cameras, stickers and Tres Palmas Marine Reserve posters, the winners are invited on a private sail and snorkel trip by Katarina Sail Charters. The sailboat Katarina, captained by Billy Bongright, arrived in Rincón this year from the United States.

The sailing and snorkeling excursion will allow the students to experience the Tres Palmas Marine Reserve firsthand. Students will learn about sailing, can help sail the vessel, will take underwater photos and share the experience with other winners while enjoying the Reserve. Congratulations to all the winners and keep the creative juices flowing.

30 de Mayo del 2006 - ESTUDIANTES COMPITEN EN PRIMER CERTAMEN DE DIBUJO Y POESÍA "YO AMO A RINCÓN"

Rincón, PR - Con el tema; "¿Qué significa la naturaleza de Rincón para ti?", invitamos a estudiantes de la Escuela Superior Manuel García Pérez a participar en nuestro primer certamen de arte, "Yo amo a Rincon".

El 26 de mayo se anunciaron los resultados de éste certamen para los participantes de la Escuela Superior Manuel García Pérez de Rincón, en los predios de ésta. El certamen consistía de categorías en dibujo y poesía.

Dos de los dibujos ganadores fueron también pintados el pasado mes de mayo en coloridos murales del plantel de la escuela superior por los mismos artistas y otros estudiantes que colaboraron con la obra.

Los premios en la categoría de dibujo son:

1er Premio- José Castro, 2do Premio- Deyson Lorenzo Ríos, 3er Premio- Natasha M. Muñiz

Los premios en la categoría de poesía son:

1er Premio- Katia González Lorenzo, 2do Premio- José Ezequiel Santiago, 3er Premio- Roniel Mercado Chaparro

Además de una bolsa de playa con regalos como membresías a la Fundación Surfrider, cámaras de agua, stickers, y posters de la Reserva Marina Tres Palmas, los seis (6) ganadores fueron invitados por la compañia Katarina Sail Chartes a viajar en su velero en un pasadía privado por las costas de Rincón. El velero Katarina llegó a Rincon éste año desde la costa este de los Estados Unidos manejado por su capitán Bill Bonbright.

El viaje consiste de un paseo en el velero para ir snorkeling y conocer la Reserva Marina Tres Palmas. Los estudiantes aprenderán como se maneja un velero, podrán ayudar a velear, compartirán con los otros ganadores del certamen, tomarán fotos debajo del agua y dizfrutarán del precioso mar de Rincón. ¡Felicidades a todos los ganadores y sigan tan creativos siempre!
