Feb. 12, 2002: MEETING WITH MAYOR CARLOS LOPEZ Return to the Updates page On February 12, 2002 Surfrider and the Coalición Pro Calidad de Vida en Rincón met with Mayor Carlos Lopez, Wilfredo Lopez, Coordinador Comunitario - Cámara de Representates - Oficina del Presidente, and senior staff from the Department of Natural Resources (DRNA) at Yico's to discuss permanent preservation strategies for Rincón's natural and recreational resources. Highlights from the meeting included: Mayor Carlos Lopez reaffirmed to the Coalition, DRNA and Wilfredo Lopez that he supports the Coalicion's Tres Palmas initiative Wilfredo Lopez said that the Reserva Natural Maritima legislation will be introduced by Speaker of the House Vizcarrondo in the near future DRNA Staff recommended expanding the boundaries of the Reserva Natural Maritima to include the third reef at Steps/Tres Palmas DRNA Staff recommended expanding the Area de Planificacion Especial boundaries to include the entire local watershed.
