November 1, 2007 – Students Create PSA’s to Educate Locals
As part of Surfrider’s Coral Reef Restoration Project, students from the Manuel García Pérez High School created two original Public Service Announcement Posters (PSAs) to educate the local community about the harm caused by marine debris.
The education project challenged Sra. Brenda Cardona’s Environmental Science class to design PSA’s dealing with the accumulation of debris and the state of Rincón’s beaches and reefs. The students were given cameras and took pictures of the accumulated tire piles at the Public Works yard. They voted on the best photos and worked on a message and then created posters. These posters were printed and then displayed in nearly 100 public places throughout the Rincón community.
One student also prepared a small video highlighting the issue that was immediately posted on the Surfrider website:

Estudiantes de la Escuela Superior Manuel García Pérez participaron en conjunto con Surfrider en un proyecto educativo. Los jóvenes se dieron a la tarea de hacer unos afiches informativos informando sobre las condiciones de las playas de Rincón. Mencionaban los estudiantes que los objetivos de este proyecto fueron informar a la comunidad de Rincón sobre la condición de las playas en Rincón, crear conciencia en las personas sobre la importancia de proteger y conservar nuestras playas y motivar a las personas para tomar acción en la conservación de las playas.
