October 10, 2002 -- U. S. Coral Reef
Task Force Award
La Coalición Pro Calidad de Vida en Rincón,
the Surfrider Foundation, and Environmental Defense were honored
on Wednesday, October 2 with an achievement award from the
U. S. Coral Reef Task Force. The award recognized the group's
"
outstanding leadership and commitment in protecting
Puerto Rico's valuable coral reefs by promoting designation
of a Natural Reserve in Rincón."
The U.S. Coral Reef Task Force was created through an executive
order by President Clinton and is co-chaired by the Secretary
of the Interior and the Secretary of Commerce. The Task Force
is charged with monitoring, researching and conserving the
coral reef resources of the US and its territories and commonwealths.
