Surfrider
Foundation Santa Barbara Chapter is hosted guest speakers, Jill
Zachary and Jill Murray from the City of SB Creeks Division at
our Chapter General Meeting Thursday, February 1 , 2007 at 7:00
PM at the Watershed Resource Center at Arroyo Burro County Park.
They will give a presentation
Jill Zachary, Clean Water manger, and Jill Murray, Water Quality Project
coordinator, both with the City of Santa Barbara Creeks Division, will
give a presentation Focusing on the city’s local Creek and Ocean
Water Quality Monitoring Program. The Creeks Division Monitoring
Program provides data to establish baselines of water quality, track
long-term changes, and assess project performance. This information
is needed to understand sources and routes of pollution in creeks,
prioritize future projects for the Division and provide a basis for
understanding the effectiveness of the current program. The Creeks
Division strives to maintain a dynamic, adaptive monitoring program
that is driven by specific research questions. Recently, the
Creeks Division completed a five-year water quality report that compiles
and analyzes data from 2001-2006. The purpose of the report is
to record the efforts of the Monitoring Program in a way that is meaningful
to the public while also being technical. A second purpose is
to compile and synthesize the data in ways that can be used to inform
decisions. Last, the report provides an opportunity to revisit
research questions based on the results obtained.
Our general meetings are a place to hear from remarkable speakers
on interesting or hot topics in a comfortable setting. Please join us
to find out what other issues and challenges face our coast and ocean
and what Surfrider is doing to help. Meet like-minded individuals, contribute
to the discussion, or just listen and learn. Refreshments provided. |
