NAPLES DEVELOPMENT

TALKING POINTS/ PUBLIC COMMENT

The develoment project at Naples would be a disaster for conservation efforts on the Gaviota Coast by expanding the urban limit line and creating the wrong permitting precedent by the County.

DEADLINE IS August 28th.

You may comment on the DEIR by providing testimony in these three ways:

GENERAL TALKING POINTS (these will be updated)

  • Preservation of the rural character of the Naples area as the overarching goal which the community should ask of the decision makers.
  • Ask the County to treat the entire project as one project and not process development in the inland portion before the coastal portion.
  • Ask decision makers to require the entire project to be completely processed, including Coastal Commission action BEFORE the following actions:
    1. Before implementation of LCP Policy 2-13’s requirement for transfer of development, and
    2. Before approval of a new zone district, and
    3. Before the County’s final action on inland permits.
  • The new zone district should limit house sizes to compatibility with existing Gaviota Coast averages, but in no case should they be larger than 5,000 sq. ft.
  • Design precepts included in any new zone district should require green design & building principals.
  • The County should seek opportunities to allow for the purchase of land or easements to reduce the amount of development.
  • Support the Naples Coalition Alternative concepts as the only pathway for the development to take without strong public opposition.  (See website for details.)
