The SB Surf Girls Documentary Fundraising Event

Monday, April 7th, 2008 at
Stateside Restaurant and Lounge in Santa Barbara, CA from 5 to 10:30 pm.
This is a free event.

What makes this project unique is the emphasis on what it takes to start surfing.  There are many wonderful surf films out there that focus on famous surfers on ten-foot waves, but this project shows that for a beginner surfer, it's just as exciting to catch a two-foot wave. For the women in this documentary, many would never get out to surf if it wasn't for this group.  Most of them are starting later in their lives, several are mothers and even grandmothers, and all are busy professionals.

In addition to raising funds for the documentary, the Surfer Divas would like the opportunity to give back to the group, and to raise awareness of environmental organizations that help protect our oceans.   To facilitate this, they are helping to create a separate fund for the Santa Barbara Surf Girls group that will be used to provide free classes and equipment grants for members of the group. There will be an information table at the SB Surf Girl event for more information about the documentary, the surf group and a free table available for non-profit organizations that help protect our oceans.

The Santa Barbara Surf Girls documentary is currently in production. The documentary is centered on a core group of characters within an all female beginner surfer group. It follows the group from the initial stages of surfing to becoming advanced surfers. In the process friendships are formed and the women experience empowerment in all areas of their lives as a result of taking on this challenging sport.
The documentary is a collaboration between two local production companies:  Pixley Flix Productions <http://pixleyflix.com//>  and Rincon Productions <http://rincon-productions.com/> .  Surfer Divas is the result of this awesome connection.

We are very excited about the support we have already received from our first software sponsor, SmartSound <http://www.smartsound.com/sonicfire/demos/index.html> . We are in discussion with several other sponsors, and as the project progresses there will be many opportunities for both product placement within the video, and for clever online advertisements on our Internet distribution channel and social networking site. We are currently looking for more crew, equipment, sponsorship and distribution opportunities to bring this production up to the next level.

We are happy to announce that the Surf Rider Foundation Santa Barbara Chapter will be participating on our event. check out surfrider.org <http://www.surfrider.org/santabarbara/> .
