CHAPTER GENERAL INTEREST MEETING
Special Guest: Shaun Tomson, April 6, 2006
In
the sport of surfing’s first decade of professionalism,
1976 to 1985, South Africa’s Shaun Tomson captured more
international tour victories than any other competitor. He
was International Pro-Surfing’s (IPS) World Champion
in 1977, and was the only surfer to hold an IPS Top 6 ranking
for 10 consecutive years, from 1976 to 1985. He was named Environmentalist
of the Year in 2003 by the Surf Industry Manufacturer’s
Association and was recently inducted into the Surfing Hall
of Fame. For the last three years he has been Chairman of Surfrider’s
Advisory Board. He has lived in Santa Barbara for the last
10 years where he started and recently sold his clothing venture,
Solitude.
As a competitive and free surfer, Shaun has traveled all over
the world and surfed many of the world's most dangerous waves.
He will present 12 simple yet important lessons that surfing
has taught him about riding through life in “ A Surfer’s
Code,” a self-narrated slide show, developed from a book
to be released in August. Please come out to hear Shaun’s
philosophy on life, view extraordinary slides from surf around
the world, and learn about his experiences as a professional
surfer.
