The hill pictured is the home of 1 of only 4 populations of pacific pocket mice left in the world. The FTC-South toll road will fragment the pacific pocket mice's habitat in a most horrible way. Already hemmed in on the north by a residential development (full of the mice's enemy, the domestic cat), the toll road will cut off the pacific pocket mouse's habitat to the south, dooming the population on the hill to probable extinction. The devastating consequences of the toll road cannot be appreciably mitigated with regard to the pacific pocket mouse and the other endangered and threatened species living in the toll road's path.
