Started the day 1 mile south of Rollover Pass, a small man-made cut between the surf and Galveston Bay which has caused extensive erosion in the area. Noticed a remarkable difference in the surf and beach near High Island and the remnants of Meacom's Pier, steeper beaches, rocks and shell with some clay bottom, and more powerful surf breaking closer to shore.

The next 25 miles of beach were fairly desolate, the coastal Highway 87 had been washed out years ago by erosion but the beach is still accessible by 4WD. (note: we only had 2WD, good thing we brought a shovel, especially to dig Ellis' truck out...) The Mc Fadden National Wildlife Refuge extends along the coast here with abundant wildlife. Even though we know the finish will be tomorrow, our necks and backs are in constant and almost unbearable pain and we are reaching the limits of complete exhaustion. It was comforting to have our escort Mike Gautreau paddle alongside, and additional escorts Chad and Floyd fired up the BBQ. We finished the day at Sea Rim State Park.
