Improve Public Notification at Florida Beaches

Improve Public Notification at Florida Beaches

Consistent public notification procedures are implemented by every coastal county in Florida when measured bacteria levels exceed the state health standard

Florida's Healthy Beaches Program requires prompt public notification when water testing results exceed bacteria health limits at the beach, but actual monitoring and notification practices vary by county.  Surfrider is asking for physical signs to be posted at the beach to provide beach-goers warning at the beach when swim advisories are issued due to high bacteria results.  We are also asking that any retesting that happens before these advisories are issued is performed the same day that the first high results are obtained, as is required by state law.
