I just returned from a two day workshop in DC on adaptive management approaches for renewable ocean energy projects. The workshop, sponsored by NOAA and the Coastal States Organization brought together Federal Agency Staff (FERC, NMFS, USGS, Corps of Engineers), State Coastal Programs (DE, MA, OR, RI), renewable ocean energy industry folks, The Nature Conservancy and the Surfrider Foundation. It was a valuable workshop and where a lot of information on the importance of using adaptive management to move projects forward in the face of uncertainty about environmental impacts.
Here are a few key recently published documents & links that came out of the workshop. We'll highlight some of these in more detail later.
The Dept. of Interior has produced an excellent technical guide on Adaptive Management:
Adaptive Management: The U.S. Department of the Interior Technical Guide.
Offshore Renewable Energy: A Regulatory Primer (as reported earlier by Ocean Amps)
