Surfrider and Patagonia Team Up for #YESon67 and #VoteOurPlanet

Patagonia is the type of business that aims to protect the environment so we are excited they are supporting the YES on Prop 67 campaign for a California plastic bag ban as part of their Vote Our Planet efforts. Check out the Patagonia mission statement for their commitment to the environment: Build the best product, cause no unnecessary harm, use business to inspire and implement solutions to the environmental crisis.

Right now we seem to be in a major environmental crisis with plastic pollution at a tipping point. Scientists predict that there could be more plastic than fish in the ocean by 2050 with the current rate of plastics entering the ocean. We need to take action now and voting YES on Proposition 67 in California is a big step in the right direction. Prop 67 would pass a statewide plastic checkout bag ban for California and start to address plastic litter at the source.

Patagonia has been inviting local Surfrider Chapters in California to host events and talk to customers about the importance of voting YES on Prop 67. On Voter Registration Day, the West LA / Malibu Chapter gave a presentation at the Patagonia Santa Monica store to a packed audience. Surfrider volunteers were also chatting with customers about YES on 67 in Ventura and there are October events planned at the Patagonia stores in Cardiff (10/13), San Francisco and Santa Cruz (10/20) and Ventura (10/20).

The Vote Our Planet initiative also aims to defend our water in additional ways, defend our soil and defend our air. “If we don’t act, then someone else will—someone who doesn’t care about a future for our children and other wild things.” You can get more info at www.patagonia.com/vote-our-planet.html
