This long-running campaign started in 1996 when the LB Breakwater Task Force formed in the Surfrider Foundation Huntington Beach / Long Beach Chapter after the release of the Breakwater 50th anniversary newspaper article. Public outreach started and in 1998 the LB Breakwater Task Force officially became the Surfrider Foundation Long Beach Chapter. Over the years the campaign has gained support from the Long Beach City Council and Army Corps of Engineers to develop a feasability study for an indepth professional assessment of the project. Funding for the feasibility study is the next step in the campaign. For more details please visit www.lbsurfrider.org/sink-the-breakwater
