Get a Surfrider Foundation license plate in North Carolina!

Help the Surfrider Foundation establish a specialty license plate.

Submit an application for a Surfrider Foundation specialty license plate in North Carolina and help support and promote the Surfrider Foundation's mission of protection and enjoyment of our world’s ocean, waves and beaches for all people. Once established, proceeds from the sales of Surfrider Foundation license plates offered through the North Carolina DMV's Specialty License Plate Program will advance the work of the Surfrider Foundation in North Carolina, from the Outer Banks to the Crystal Coast, inland to Charlotte, and down to Cape Fear.  Our North Carolina chapters are working hard to fight for clean water, reduce plastic pollution, preserve our coasts, and make the coast more accessible to all, and we greatly appreciate your support of these efforts!

To get this plate into circulation and protect North Carolina coasts for years to come, we need to collect 500 applications from drivers with vehicles registered in North Carolina.  Fill out your application today to help us reach our goal!

Once we have received 500 paid applications, we will be able to submit to the North Carolina Division of Motor Vehicles for approval of our new specialty plate.  The Surfrider Foundation specialty plate will then need to be established officially via legislation passed by the North Carolina General Assembly, and after that time, in 240 days or less, the DMV shall issue the new specialty plates.

Our goal is to reach 500 applications by February 15, 2025!  If we are unable to reach the 500 application goal by that time, we will continue to gather applications until we meet the goal.  We will send periodic updates to applicants via the email address you provided in conjunction with your application.
