As we approach the last wispy bits of summer, we reminisce about long days in the sun, cool dips in the ocean, and memorable moments with friends and family. Summer gives us an opportunity to slow ourselves down and reflect. This time of year, the Surfrider team sees the enjoyment part of our mission come to life — we protect so we can enjoy.

Your beach picnic doesn’t need any single-use tableware, and certainly no styrofoam or plastics. Swap out plastic cups, cutlery, and straws for reusable options. A little preparation goes a long way in keeping plastics out of the sand and sea.
2. Respect the tides, leave only footprints
Whether it’s a sunset walk or a beach bonfire, pack out what you pack in. Even better, take a few minutes to pick up stray trash on your way out. Take care of your community and do your part to leave the beach better than you found it.

3. Get involved locally
