Eastern LI Downtown Montauk Shoreline Stabilization Plan

The Army Corps of Engineers has a plan to stabilize the beach in downtown Montauk that the Chapter thinks may be inconsitent with local laws and it may destroy the public beach.The plan ACOE plan is to place 3100 linear feet of geotubes on the beach and dunes right in front of the hotels and homes in downtown Montauk, and then cover them with additional sand. The chapter claims with will not last, and the sand will wash away, leaving only the rock-hard geotubes on what is now the public beach. The chapter also contends these tubes are really hard structures and therefor not allowed by a local law that prohibits hard structures.
