Building Heights Limited in Kill Devil Hills, NC

The Town of Kill Devil Hills, in North Carolina's Outer Banks, maintained long-held limits on the size of hotels constructed on ocean front property. Proposed loosening of the regulations would have potentially allowed larger construction projects along the town's eroding shorelines. The Outer Banks Chapter worked with a coalition of other concerned citizens to keep the original height restrictions firmly in place. As chapter Co-Chair John Wasniewski explains, “Increasing height limits along the oceanfront would not only add to current water quality issues but would put added pressure on the Town to “do something” about our natural beaches -- probably in the form of beach fill and dredging.”
