City of Monterey Bag Ban
The City of Monterey is considering an ordinance to ban the sale of single-use plastic and paper bags, excluding produce and recycled-content bags, by all retailers, excluding restaurants. The ordinance would place a $0.10 fee on recycled content paper bags, increasing to a $0.25 fee after 12 months. The Monterey Chapter supports this ordinance as a measure to reduce and prevent plastic marine pollution.
