Eugene Bag Ban

On October 22, 2012 the Eugene City Council passed a plastic bag ban ordinance for all local retailers that also includes a five-cent fee for paper bags as an incentive for people to remember their reusable bags. Eugene members worked with Surfrider staff and the Siuslaw Chapter alongside other local organizations OLCV and Environment Oregon to rally grassroots community support for the ordinance. The bag ban will take effect in six months and represents the most comprehensive policy passed to date in Oregon.
