Making Beaches Smaller for Safety

Surfrider Foundation Chapters have said for a long time that large volume beachfills can lead to a steep slope near the water's edge and this can create more dangerous conditions.  In 2006, when the Jersey Shore Chapter asked the NJ DEP and the Army Corps to scale back a beachfill project in Long Beach Island, NJ the response was something like, we are not going to put one less grain of sand on this beach than the project calls for.  Strange that now, in another area, they are actually planning to remove some sand from a similar fill.
