CJ’s curiosity for the issue of plastic pollution was sparked while studying the impacts of plastic in the Stone Town Harbor in Zanzibar, Tanzania. Since then, her research on plastic has been published in peer-reviewed scientific journals, and she’s worked on numerous campaigns that tackle plastic pollution at the source.
Before joining Surfrider, CJ was the Plastics Campaign Associate at Oceana, where she worked on policies that reduce the production and use of single-use plastic. She also helped private and public institutions to reduce single-use plastic in their operations. CJ has a master’s degree in Development Practice from Emory University with a focus on Monitoring and Evaluation (M&E) and Environmental Conservation. When not working, CJ is either practicing hot yoga, exploring the springs of central Florida where she lives, or making the trip to Florida’s beautiful coasts to swim, fish, and scuba dive.
