Environment

After volunteering for Surfrider's Humboldt chapter for several years, Jennifer was hired by Ocean Conservancy to implement California's landmark Marine Life Protection Act. That successful effort led to additional ocean and coastal policy work for the Northcoast Environmental Center, based in Humboldt County, and then to statewide leadership as Surfrider's California Policy Manager. Jennifer spent several years in that role, advocating at the legislature and in front of state agencies to ensure protection of the state's 1,100 miles of coastline, and supporting California's 20 chapters on regional ocean protection efforts. After a brief stint doing communications and policy at California's Ocean Protection Council, Jennifer returned to the Surfrider Foundation to lead the Plastic Pollution Initiative at the national level. She continues to reside in Humboldt County. When not working, Jennifer spends as much time in or around the ocean and Humboldt Bay as possible, where she surfs, kayaks, paddleboards, hikes and otherwise makes the most of living in one of the world's most beautiful places.
