Melissa manages Surfrider’s national communications, media and public relations to increase awareness, action and support for the protection of our ocean and coasts. Prior to this role, Melissa elevated regional, national and global media coverage and amplified sustainability partnerships for an international sustainable fishing organization. She previously served as a public relations lead for a major cruise line, helping with the launch of the first sustainable seafood program in the cruise line industry. Melissa has also promoted ocean conservation as a marine science educator, environmental education instructor and life science volunteer at a public aquarium. Originally from the Pacific Northwest, Melissa studied in Siena, Italy and holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in English Literature from Western Washington University. She leverages her passion for clean water, healthy beaches, and marine conservation to help protect our ocean, waves and beaches for this and future generations.
