Desalination Plant Huntington Beach
Poseidon Resources is proposing to build an ocean desalination plant that would be co-located with the coastal power plant in south-east Huntington Beach. The chapter opposes this particular ocean desalination proposal because the location and design of the plant fails to minimize marine life mortality from the intake of seawater and is extremely energy demanding compared to alternative sources of fresh water supplies. We advocate for alternatives to ocean desalination that will reduce the "embedded energy" in fresh water supplies, reduce pollution, and recycle wastewater currently being discharged to the ocean. All these alternatives are consistent with our Know Your H2O principles and practices and are feasible alternatives to ocean desalination in Orange County.
