Surfrider Becomes Regular Part of Science Class

Surfrider-First Coast Chapter Chairman Paul Hayden presented an Ocean Friendly Garden slide show to three of Sharon Silver's science classes at Fletcher Middle School. The presentation demonstrated various ways the students and their parents could help protect the land where they live and play, their rivers and their oceans while also saving resources and money. Surfrider calls it applying CPR - Conservation, Permeability and Retention - to landscapes and hard surfaces.

Per Paul, “The students were very interested and involved in the discussion and asked good questions. It left me with the belief that they get the message and will be positive messengers of change if the future”. Sharon was so stoked by Paul's presentations to her classes last year that she asked him back.

Fletcher has a crew of engaged teachers. Last year, the First Coast Chapter's OFG Committee helped lead an OFG installation at the school, working with a local landscape professional and the class of Fletcher Art Teacher Chris Hicks.

Keep up the great work OFG Committee and Paul Hayden!
