Pass Assembly Bill 1597 (Alvarez) in the State Legislature
Surfrider and our coalition of 50+ partners are urging support of Assembly Bill 1597 (Alvarez). If passed, this bill will make it possible for the CA Environmental Protection Agency (CalEPA) to enter into agreements with the North American Development Bank (NADBank) for loans, grants, and direct expenditures on essential environmental infrastructure projects in the Tijuana River and New River binational watersheds, two of the most contaminated rivers in the United States.
AB 1597 would allow for the State of California to contribute funds to the federal entity, NADBank, for financing critically needed water quality upgrades in the Tijuana River Watershed.
This bill essentially creates an avenue for California to ‘pitch in’ to address federal infrastructure failures that are resulting in serious public health issues in San Diego County.
Join Surfrider, our expanding local coalition, and Assemlbymember Alvarez in supporting AB 1597.
