Banned the Sale of Balloons in East Hampton, NY

The Eastern Long Island Chapter joined an effort to ban the sale of balloons in East Hampton, NY.

The ELI Chapter of the Surfrider Foundation, with the help of East Hampton Trustee Susan McGraw-Keber, helped ban the sale of balloons filled with helium or lighter than air gases in East Hampton. Banning the sale of such balloons is an additional step towards making sure balloons are not littering our beaches and ocean, that they are not harming wildlife, or causing electrical fires and power outages.

The Chapter sent a letter of support in September 2021 along with about 30 other local organizations and businesses. The Chapter Chair spoke in the East Hampton Town Board Work Session on September 7, 2021 and was quoted in the East Hampton Star. The Vice Chair spoke in the Public Hearing on October 7, 2021 and was also quoted. The Chapter Coordinator gave one last comment in the East Hampton Town Board Work Session on December 14, 2021 before it passed unanimously!
