Hawaii Passes Bill to make State Carbon Neutral by 2045!

Hawaii Bill Makes the state Carbon Neutral by 2045 & creates a Carbon Sequestration Task Force.

Surfrider's Hawaii Chapters have been supporting legislative bills to reduce carbon emissions and make the state more carbon neutral.  We worked with a coalition of groups on supporting this bill and included it in our priorities for our Civics Is Sexy program.  Sponsored by Rep. Chris Lee, this bill would make Hawaii one of the first states to become carbon neutral in the country.  After passing both the House and the Senate, Gov. Ige signed the bill into law on June 4th, and Surfrider Oahu's Rafael Bergstrom was there at the signing with other Surfrider members.  One year ago, Hawaii became the first state to sign a bill committing to the goals of the Paris Agreement on Climate Change, and now the state is taking the necessary steps to make that commitment a reality!
