Help Ban Polystyrene in SLO County

Tell the board members of San Luis Obispo County's Integrated Waste Management Authority to support proposed ordinance No. 2019-1 which bans the use of polystyrene in San Luis Obispo County and urge them to vote to enact it.

The County of San Luis Obispo has an enormous opportunity to address a major source of pollution in our communities, waterways and coastlines by adopting a countywide ordinance to ban polystyrene.

Nearly 500 pounds of plastic enter the oceans every second. These plastics do not completely degrade but instead break down into smaller pieces called “microplastics” that continue to harm marine life. A study in nearby Monterey Bay found microplastics in ocean water samples at all depths measured. This is a serious problem on our coastline and we need your help!
