Manhattan Beach Balloon Release Ban

On March 6th, 2019, the Manhattan Beach City Council passed a stricter version of their plastics reduction ordinance that includes a ban on balloon releases!

The ordinance builds on State law prohibiting the release of mylar balloons and states that no person shall use or distribute foil, “metalized” or Mylar balloons on public property including parks and beaches. No person shall use or distribute foil, “metalized” or Mylar balloons on public property including parks and beaches. No person shall use or distribute latex balloons filled with air or helium at any City function or City sponsored event. No person shall release latex balloons filled with air or helium anywhere within the City limits.

Surfrider Foundation South Bay Chapter volunteers advocated for this coastal victory by raising awareness about the issue and speaking at city council meetings.
