Texas Open Beaches Act

All Texas Chapters are heavily committed to fighting for public beach access for all persons to enjoy the beautiful sandy beaches of the Texas Gulf coast. This campaign includes battling to preserve and strengthen the Texas Open Beaches Act, which was established in 1959 and guarantees free public access to beaches on the Gulf of Mexico. Through the work of Surfrider Texas Chapters, the Open Beaches Act was added to the Texas Constitution on November 3, 2009 through the passage of the Prop 9 Constitutional Amendment. The Chapters continue to defend Texas Open Beaches currently as an amicus party to the Severance v. Patterson case being deliberated in the Texas Supreme Court.
