As the Wigi National Monument Campaign Coordinator for Surfrider, Carla helps support the effort to establish the Wigi National Monument along the coast in Northern California. Growing up half an hour away from the Pacific Ocean, Carla has always had a deep love for the coast that only strengthened when she moved to attend Cal Poly Humboldt. There Carla lived within walking distance to the beach and experienced coastal dunes for the first time and was instantly enthralled by this unique coastal habitat that includes rare coastal maritime forests, foredunes with native wildflowers, freshwater wetlands, intertidal habitat, broad moving dunes, and more! In her most recent role, Carla was a Natural Resources Planner II and worked extensively with the Peninsula community where the proposed monument will be located. Carla earned her B.S. in Environmental Science with an emphasis in ecological restoration. She also minored in Watershed Management, Soil Science, and Geography. She currently sits on the Board for Friends of the Dunes as the secretary. Living in Humboldt County, Carla has endless opportunities to explore a wide array of habitats and enjoys hiking, backpacking, mushroom hunting, and kayaking. Carla is ecstatic to be helping with the Wigi National Monument Campaign to protect this unique coastal habitat in perpetuity.
