With a passion for clean water, Dr. Amato has been investigating land-based water pollution in the Pacific for the last 20 years. In 2015, Dan became involved with the O‘ahu Chapter's Blue Water Task Force and now serves as the program director for the island.
As a graduate and current affiliate faculty at the University of Hawaiʻi at Manoa, Dan currently manages research projects and assists students with the development of new rapid methods for fecal bacteria quantification and forecasting through a Surfrider-UH partnership. At his 'day job', Dan works as a water quality specialist and environmental scientist with a private consulting firm in Hawaiʻi.
When he is not at work, you can find Dan somewhere between the peaks of the mountains and reef breaks around O‘ahu.
