Chapters, East Region

Emma is a professional advocate who believes public policy should be crafted with the best available science and rigorous public input. Using this framework, Emma advances Surfrider’s coastal campaigns and policy priorities with state and regional decisionmakers in Florida. Hailing from Massachusetts, she fled the cold to receive a BA in history and political science from Warren Wilson College before launching a career in public service. She spent her early career inspiring stewardship for America’s most sacred spaces traveling and working as a park ranger from coast to coast before ultimately falling in love with the Everglades and South Florida. She then spent two years at the helm of grassroots nonprofit Florida Bay Forever where she advocated for ecosystem restoration and water quality before joining the Surfrider team. When she isn’t busy advocating for Florida’s beaches and waves, you can find her fishing in the backcountry of the Everglades or scuba diving and exploring Florida Keys National Marine Sanctuary with her husband.
