With 522 million active users, Pinterest is an image-based exploration and discovery platform. Users interact with Pinterest as a way to find inspiration for their next big project, online shop the current fashion trends, and to explore visual media, from cooking to pottery. A key tenant to Pinterest as a company is protecting the planet. From powering their workforce with 100% renewable energy to setting emission reduction targets approved by the Science Based Targets initiative, Pinterest is inline with the Surfrider Foundation in fighting against the threats of climate change in order to protect our lands and our ocean. Other environmental initiatives that Pinterest practices are PinPlanet, an internal group at Pinterest that hosts community events and develops content on how to live more sustainably, and the Climate Misinformation Policy, which prohibits false or misleading content about climate change. In addition, Surfrider and Pinterest co-hosted a series of beach cleanups from which data was collected on waste and plastic that was then used to advocate for a cleaner beach, ocean and planet.
