Congressman Jared Huffman talks 30x30, climate change, plastic pollution and finding inspiration in politics

Episode 81: Our first Congressional interview!

This week's episode of Protect & Enjoy, Surfrider Foundation’s weekly California coast and ocean policy podcast, features a special guest: North Coast Congressman Jared Huffman. The Congressman spoke with California Policy Manager Jennifer Savage about federal efforts to fight plastic pollution, address climate change, what the 30x30 movement means for our ocean, and how he manages to stay hopeful despite his decades in politics – a great conversation offering insight on what's happening behind the scenes in Congress.

The show also features a Factoid from Surfrider Environmental Science and Policy Manager Katie Day about why we should never give up on seagrass, a simple swap from Olivia for the Ocean addressing how you can answer nature’s call in without resorting to plastic and an update from California Policy Coordinator Mandy Sacket and the latest on the ocean-life-killing desalination plant we’re determined to stop from being built (even if you’re not in Southern California, this matters, because if this project goes through, it will send a signal that the state is willing to allow destructive industries to exploit our coast, which clearly goes against the letter and the spirit of California’s Coastal Act!)
