Legendary Surfer Shaun Tomson Honored at Surfrider’s One Ocean Gala to Protect Clean Water and Healthy Beaches for All People

Limited tickets now available for Saturday, October 8 to support the protection of the world’s ocean, waves and beaches

San Clemente, Calif., September 27, 2022 - On October 8, the Surfrider Foundation will host its 7th annual West Coast One Ocean gala to support the protection of clean water and healthy beaches. The event will take place at The Ecology Center, a regenerative farm in San Juan Capistrano, California. This year’s high-profile gala will honor former World Surfing Champion, Shaun Tomson, who has been recognized as one of the 10 greatest surfers of all time. A limited number of tickets are available now, with proceeds supporting the Surfrider Foundation’s mission to protect the world’s ocean, waves and beaches for all people.

“Our annual One Ocean event brings together our dedicated California supporters to celebrate our impact and raise critical support for the protection of our ocean and coasts,” said Surfrider’s CEO, Dr. Chad Nelsen. “This year, we’re honored to recognize legendary surfer, Shaun Tomson, who has been contributing to the success of our mission since Surfrider first started in 1984. Shaun’s passion and commitment to giving back are inspirational and we look forward to celebrating his efforts to protect the places we love.”

Guests will enjoy live music by Ron Artis II, silent and live auctions and a gourmet farm-to-table style dinner. Previous notable guests at Surfrider’s One Ocean events have included Kim and Jack Johnson, Brandon Boyd, Sarah Hay, Selema Masekela, Jayma Cardoso, Kelly Slater, Cynthia Rowley, and other leaders in the fashion, surf, finance, business and music industries.

“I think every surfer has a responsibility to give something back to this beautiful sport, art form and lifestyle that provides so much pleasure, sensation and solitude,” said Shaun Tomson. “It’s our obligation to get involved in ocean conservation and protect the world’s ocean and coasts. Waves are not free and we can repay that debt by supporting Surfrider and its mission to protect our ocean, waves and beaches for all people.”
